Given the name and the cover, I had thought this would be more about body image exclusively, but what was really cool about this collection was the way that all the parts of self were woven in together and shown to have an influence on each other. Like much of the modern poetry I enjoy reading, this had a lot of free verse, interspersed occasionally by passages of prose. It was difficult not to quote the entire thing. My fingers got sore from highlighting every line, from thoughts on body size, to gender, to love of women, to loneliness and self rejection. I love love loved this collection from beginning to end. The main thing I came out of this thinking was that I no longer need to write a poetry collection of my own because, if I was to write one, these would have been the exact words I would have used. Although not all of them highlight f/f interests specifically, this one does, and so I’m going to include it. I’ve read her poems before and absolutely loved them. Okay, I am beyond pleased that my first book in this series is a poetry collection by Shelby Eileen.
